Getting Started

What is Refynne?

Refynne is a personal finance management app that helps you track expenses, manage budgets, and understand your spending patterns. It's designed to be simple, secure, and privacy-focused.

How do I create an account?

  1. Download Refynne from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android)
  2. Open the app and tap "Get Started"
  3. Enter your email address and create a password
  4. Verify your email (optional for cloud sync)
  5. Set up your profile and preferences

Can I use Refynne without an account?

Yes! Refynne works fully offline with local storage. You only need an account if you want to:

  • Sync data across multiple devices
  • Back up your data to the cloud
  • Access premium features

What currencies are supported?

Refynne supports 30+ currencies including:

  • Americas: USD, CAD, BRL, MXN
  • Europe: EUR, GBP, CHF, SEK, NOK, DKK, PLN, TRY, RUB
  • Asia Pacific: JPY, AUD, INR, KRW, SGD, THB, PHP, IDR, MYR, HKD, TWD
  • Middle East: ILS, AED, SAR
  • Africa: ZAR, KES, NGN

Managing Expenses

How do I add an expense?

  1. Tap the "+" button on the home screen
  2. Enter the amount
  3. Select a category
  4. Add a description (optional)
  5. Choose the date
  6. Tap "Save"

How do I edit an expense?

  1. Find the expense in your transaction list
  2. Tap on the expense to open details
  3. Tap "Edit"
  4. Make your changes
  5. Tap "Save"

How do I delete an expense?

  1. Find the expense in your transaction list
  2. Swipe left on the expense (iOS) or long-press (Android)
  3. Tap "Delete"
  4. Confirm deletion

What categories are available?

Refynne includes 30 main categories organized into 7 groups:

  • Housing: Rent, Mortgage, Maintenance, Security
  • Bills: Utilities, Internet, Phone, TV
  • Transport: Car, Transit, Taxi, Bike
  • Food: Groceries, Dining, Refreshments, Alcohol
  • Shopping: Clothing, Electronics, Garden, Beauty, Shopping
  • Lifestyle: Health, Fitness, Entertainment, Education, Travel, Family, Pets
  • Finance: Insurance, Subscriptions, Banking, Investments, Taxes, Gifts, Other

Can I create custom categories?

Currently, Refynne uses a predefined category system for consistency. Custom categories are planned for a future update.

How do I scan receipts?

  1. Tap the "+" button
  2. Select "Scan Receipt"
  3. Point your camera at the receipt
  4. The app will automatically extract the amount and date
  5. Review and edit the details
  6. Tap "Save"

Budget Management

How do I create a budget?

  1. Go to the Budget tab
  2. Tap "Create Budget"
  3. Select a category
  4. Enter your budget limit
  5. Choose the period (weekly, monthly, yearly)
  6. Tap "Save"

How do I track my budget progress?

  • The Budget tab shows all your budgets with progress bars
  • Green = under budget
  • Yellow = approaching limit (80%+)
  • Red = over budget

How do I edit a budget?

  1. Go to the Budget tab
  2. Tap on the budget you want to edit
  3. Tap "Edit"
  4. Make your changes
  5. Tap "Save"

How do I delete a budget?

  1. Go to the Budget tab
  2. Tap on the budget
  3. Tap "Delete"
  4. Confirm deletion

Note: Deleting a budget does not delete the associated expenses.

What happens when I exceed my budget?

  • You'll receive a notification (if enabled)
  • The budget card turns red
  • You can still add expenses to that category

Analytics & Reports

What analytics are available?

Refynne provides three analytics views:

  1. Overview: Current month spending summary
  2. Historical: Month-by-month comparison
  3. Multi-Year: Year-over-year trends

How do I view spending by category?

  1. Go to the Analytics tab
  2. Select "Overview"
  3. View the pie chart showing category breakdown
  4. Tap on a category for details

Can I export my data?

Yes! To export your data:

  1. Go to Settings → Data Management
  2. Tap "Export Data"
  3. Choose format (CSV or JSON)
  4. Share or save the file

How far back does analytics go?

Analytics include all data you've entered since you started using Refynne. There's no time limit.


Settings & Preferences

How do I change my currency?

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Tap "Currency"
  3. Search or browse for your currency
  4. Tap to select

How do I change the language?

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Tap "Language"
  3. Select your preferred language

Supported languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic

How do I enable dark mode?

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Toggle "Dark Mode" on/off

Or set it to follow your system theme.

How do I manage notifications?

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Tap "Notifications"
  3. Toggle individual notification types:
    • Budget alerts
    • Daily reminders
    • Weekly summaries

Account & Security

How do I change my password?

  1. Go to Settings → Account Security
  2. Tap "Change Password"
  3. Enter your current password
  4. Enter and confirm your new password
  5. Tap "Save"

How do I enable biometric authentication?

  1. Go to Settings → Account Security
  2. Toggle "Face ID" or "Touch ID" on
  3. Authenticate to confirm

How do I delete my account?

  1. Go to Settings → Account
  2. Tap "Delete Account"
  3. Enter your password to confirm
  4. Tap "Delete Permanently"

Warning: This action is irreversible. All your data will be permanently deleted.

Is my data secure?

Yes! Refynne uses:

  • Local encryption for on-device storage
  • TLS 1.3 for data in transit
  • AES-256 encryption for cloud storage
  • Secure password hashing (bcrypt)

Where is my data stored?

  • Local mode: Data is stored only on your device
  • Cloud sync: Data is stored on secure AWS servers

Troubleshooting

The app is crashing

Try these steps:

  1. Force close and reopen the app
  2. Restart your device
  3. Check for app updates
  4. Reinstall the app (your data is preserved if using cloud sync)

My data isn't syncing

  1. Check your internet connection
  2. Ensure you're logged in
  3. Go to Settings → Sync → "Sync Now"
  4. If issues persist, contact support

I forgot my password

  1. On the login screen, tap "Forgot Password"
  2. Enter your email address
  3. Check your email for reset instructions
  4. Follow the link to create a new password

The receipt scanner isn't working

  1. Ensure good lighting
  2. Hold the camera steady
  3. Make sure the receipt is flat and readable
  4. Try manual entry if scanning fails

My budget alerts aren't working

  1. Check that notifications are enabled in Settings
  2. Check your device's notification settings for Refynne
  3. Ensure "Budget Alerts" is toggled on

The app is slow

  1. Close other apps running in the background
  2. Clear the app cache (Settings → Storage → Clear Cache)
  3. Ensure you have enough device storage
  4. Update to the latest app version

Yes! Core features are free forever. Premium features may be offered in the future.

Does Refynne connect to my bank?

No. Refynne is a manual tracking app. You enter your expenses yourself. This keeps your banking credentials secure.

Can I use Refynne on multiple devices?

Yes, if you enable cloud sync. Your data will sync across all devices logged into your account.

Is my financial data shared with anyone?

No. We do not sell or share your personal financial data. See our Privacy Policy for details.

What happens if I lose my phone?

  • With cloud sync: Log in on a new device to restore your data
  • Without cloud sync: Data stored only on the lost device cannot be recovered

Can I use Refynne offline?

Yes! Refynne works fully offline. Data syncs when you're back online (if cloud sync is enabled).
